I recently read the book Hegarty on creativity and I didn't expect myself to enjoy a book so much. Ive always been an avid reader but unfortunately neglected this as I got older so when we were assigned the task of reader a book for reading week I was more then ready to delve in.
I purposely didn't read the blurb on this book as I didn't want to create an expectations and safe to say even if I did create any expectations it defiantly exceeded it. John Hegarty is a founding creative partner of Bartle Bogle Hegarty which is said to be one of the worlds most awarded advertising agencies. This book opened my eyes on what I thought about creativity and reminded me to always trust what my creative instincts tell me. When reading this book I highlighted a few pages that I wanted to look back on, some of the quotes I particularly liked were:
-What the heart knows today, the head will understand tomorrow
-When the world zigs, zag
-Whenever I show someone an idea and they say, oh that's really good, I know I've got to tear it up, head back to the drawing board, and keep going
-Routine stunts your creativity, swap seats
-Surround yourself with people who aren't afraid of challenging you
Overall I found this book incredibly refreshing and helped put me in an imaginative mindset. I highly recommend this book to anyone that's in a creative funk and needs to hear words of inspiration.
