Ive never been film fanatic but since I came to university all I've been doing with my soarer time is watch films and I never paid attention to the true beauty of them. I think as a kid you watch films and just strictly focus on the characters and the plot it isn't until I rewatched most of my favourite childhood film is paid more attention to the set and the colour palettes. I found a lot of amazing aesthetics in films that I drew great inspiration from. here's a few of my favourites;

THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL-2014

Directed by the one and only Wes Anderson its almost no surprise that this film is a piece of art in itself the film simply stuns from the colours to the interior of the made up hotel. living up to his name of the 'Wes Anderson aesthetic' the film is full of stunning shots and perfect symmetry. When I first watched the film I was just 13 so I didn't pay much attention to the story because I simply didn't understand but I found myself more intrigued in the fantasy world that Anderson had created the delicate colours were on es I had never before seen in a film and it simply amazed me.

One of the more vibrant colour scene in the film but still creates an aesthetic. The purples and red stand out as the key colours but our mellowed out by browns/ beiges and yellow. This shot is made to make the viewer feel intimate and feel a sense of claustrophobia and Anderson is a true genius for perfecting it through one shot.

the colours pink and blue are the main colour palette for the film and appear a lot throughout. as you can see in this shot the pink perfectly balances the skin tonnes and creates an all round complementary saturation. This shot is also a perfect symmetrical shot which again is a piece of genius.

MATILDA-1996

Directed by Danny Devito this film is one that in haven't seen many people talk about the interior of this film I personally love it. The film is full of colourful patterns based from the 80s and creates a bright aesthetic.

The exterior of this house might not catch a lot of peoples attention but for me I love every aspect of it. The block colours such as the green and reds create a key colour element and create its own aura.

Another one of my favourite shots is this one of the restaurant they visit. The pastel pink matches beautifully with the clear blue Sky and creates a really nice shot. The odd blocks of black help break up the solid colours and makes it more interesting.

I am defiantly more interested in the aesthetics of films now and will take this new found awareness to use and educate myself on filmography.
