I've been following Erika bowes photography since I was about 16 and her work inspired me to pick up film cameras and opened my eyes to this beautiful art direction. in my opinion I don't think she's gotten half as much coverage as she deserves so I decided to talk about her talent in this blog post.

Born in Hawaii Erika moved to the uk as a child Erika first started to get interested in photography when she says she was at a young age and would take photos of her puppy on her old canon film camera and would then play around with the image on photoshop. Her inspirations draw from lighting, old asian cinema and Christopher Doyle.

Her photography is full of so much beauty and colour its simply stunning. Erika tased about this topic in an interview and said that she "naturally feels drawn to people" and "“I think since my 14-year-old self started seeing models of colour on Tumblr – and having grown up in the North, where you’re surrounded by white kids – I’ve always related more to it.” this is incredibly beautiful to me that theirs photographers out there who want to focus on the beauty of cultures especially in this day and age. Her success is clear to see as she has worked with numerous clients such as:

Nylon china, The wow magazine, The lab store, American apparel, Ezah Ikuy, Miaou and a better feeling and many others.

Its not just clients Erika works for she also does a lot of her own publications such as her own zines or creating her own photoshoots. Her work is said to ooze intimacy and I can't hero but agree, when I look at her pieces I feel a connection to this art form and feel like I understand every sense of the story or message she is trying got portray.

Above is some of my favourit pieces by Erika I choose these because obviously I love every element of them but I think there all so different that they all make me feel a different kind of emotion with each one.To me what draws me to Erika's works I how raw it is, I look at her photographs and see beauty and art instead of 2d image. Her talent is captivating and deserves so much more attention.
